show Abstracthide AbstractSimian arteriviruses are a group of viruses within the Arterivirus family that naturally infect wild African primates. KRCV-1 (previously called krc1) wild isolated from a wild red colobus monkey and passaged on Marc-145 cells and rhesus macaque PBMC. SHFV is the "type strain" of hemorrhagic fever-causing simian arteriviruses (formerly called the LVR type strain) and was originally isolated from moribund monkeys during an outbreak. In this study, 4 cynomolgus (crab-eating) macaques were experimentally infected with KRCV-1 and 4 were infected with SHFV. The 4 animals infected with KRCV-1 were then infected with SHFV after clearing KRCV-1 infection. We sequenced virus isolated from plasma taken at regular intervals during the study and sequenced vRNA on an Illumina MiSeq.
